How far before my trip should I schedule my appointment?
We generally recommend scheduling your travel consultation at least 4–6 weeks before departure whenever possible. However, even if your trip is approaching sooner, it is often still beneficial to schedule an appointment, as some vaccines and medications can still provide protection or travel support on shorter timelines.
Do you offer same-day or same-week appointments?
Yes. Same-day and same-week appointments may be available depending on scheduling availability and travel timelines. Please contact our clinic if you need assistance with urgent travel scheduling.
What should I bring to my appointment?
Please bring any available vaccine records, a list of current medications, and details regarding your travel itinerary if available. If you are scheduling a deployment, occupational, or program-specific exam, please also bring any required paperwork or instructions provided by your employer or program.
What vaccines do I need for my trip?
Vaccine recommendations are personalized based on your destination, itinerary, medical history, planned activities, and length of travel. During your consultation, our clinician will review your travel plans and provide recommendations tailored specifically to your trip.
Is a consultation required before receiving vaccines?
Yes. A consultation allows our clinicians to review your medical history, travel plans, vaccine history, and individual health considerations before making personalized vaccine and medication recommendations.
Can I receive vaccines during my appointment?
Yes. In most cases, vaccines can be administered during the same appointment as your consultation. Some vaccines may require additional doses or boosters depending on the vaccine schedule.
How much does a travel consultation cost?
Travel consultations are currently $126.99 per person for the first two travelers and $63.00 for each additional traveler attending the same appointment. Vaccine administration fees and vaccine costs are separate. Click here for a full list of our vaccines.
Does insurance cover travel vaccines?
Because many insurance plans do not fully cover travel vaccines, we do not bill insurance directly. However, patients receive an itemized receipt with insurance coding that may be submitted for reimbursement. We also accept HSA cards with a major credit card logo.
What travel-related medications may be prescribed during my consultation?
During your travel consultation, our clinician will review your destination, itinerary, planned activities, medical history, and individual health considerations to determine whether prescription medications are recommended for your trip.
Depending on your travel plans, recommendations may include:
Please note that the Travel & Immunization Clinic of Portland does not prescribe anti-anxiety medications for travel. If you feel you may need medication for anxiety related to flying or travel, we recommend discussing this with your primary care provider prior to your trip.
